Tyler O'Neill Getting Work In Center Field
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill, a two-time Gold Glover in left field, worked exclusively in center field at spring training on Monday. O'Neill is set to play center field for Team Canada in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. This doesn't mean that O'Neill will play center field over Dylan Carlson this year, but it's something worth watching. The 27-year-old was more selective at the plate in 2022 and hit just .228/.308/.392 with a .700 OPS, 14 home runs, 58 RBI, 56 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 383 plate appearances and 96 games. Injuries could mostly be to blame, though, as he dealt with shoulder and leg injuries along the way. O'Neill is a no-doubt starter when healthy, but he's a risky power/speed guy in the middle rounds because of inconsistency so far.
