Tyler Beede Focusing On Offspeed Pitches
5 years agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tyler Beede, who is competing for the fifth rotation spot with Logan Webb, is focusing on using his offspeed pitches (changeup and curveball) more in 2020. Beede tossed two scoreless innings in a Cactus League game against the Mariners on Thursday, walking one and striking out two while topping out at 98 mph with his fastball. The right-hander had a 5.08 ERA in 117 innings last year, but the Giants are confident he has top-of-the-rotation stuff. “Curveball and changeup are my most effective pitches just based on the numbers,” Beede explained. While the 26-year-old has upside, he's mostly an NL-only target if he wins the final rotation spot this spring.
