Stuart Fairchild Expected to Land on Injured List
Stuart Fairchild (finger) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, according to Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Fairchild reportedly injured a finger on his right hand while sliding into second base during Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader. He went 1-for-1 with a walk before exiting the contest. The 29-year-old has filled a depth role this season, appearing in 13 games as a right fielder and four as a designated hitter. He's slashing just .156/.206/.250 with a concerning 5.9 percent walk rate and 26.5 percent strikeout rate. 24-year-old prospect Carlos Rodriguez has been hitting well at Triple-A and could be summoned to the majors to replace Fairchild. Jarred Kelenic is also a candidate to re-join the big league squad. However, it's worth noting that while Fairchild is a right-handed hitter, Rodriguez and Kelenic — both on the 40-man roster — are lefties.
