Steelers Tweak Cameron Heyward's Contract
4 years agoThe Pittsburgh Steelers did a basic conversion to restructure defensive lineman Cameron Heyward's contract, according to a source, and he'll still make $10.5 million for the 2021 season. A roster bonus and base were converted to a signing bonus, which created around $7 million in salary cap space for the cap-challenged Steelers. Pittsburgh ranks No. 28 in the NFL in terms of projected salary cap space heading into the start of the new league year next month. Heyward finished the 2020 season tied for 25th in overall IDP points among defensive linemen, tied with Denver's Bradley Chubb. Heyward finished the regular season with 30 tackles (24 assists), one interception and four sacks. The four-time Pro Bowler will look to bounce back in 2021 after recording a combined 17 sacks in 2018-19.
