Ryan Pressly Designated for Assignment
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Ryan Pressly was designated for assignment on Thursday. This was the corresponding move to make room for Taylor Rogers on the 40-man roster, who they acquired from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. This season has been a huge disappointment for the veteran, who was expected to earn the bulk of the save opportunities for the club. He last served as a full-time closer in 2023 when he saved 31 games for the Astros, but he posted a 4.36 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 2025 and was quickly booted from ninth-inning duties in favor of Daniel Palencia. He could find himself a new home for the final two months of the year if another team claims him on waivers or he hits free agency.
