Ronny Mauricio Needs Surgery For Torn ACL
1 year agoNew York Mets rookie infielder Ronny Mauricio (knee) suffered a torn ACL in his knee while playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic on Sunday and will need to have surgery, according to a source. There is no clear timetable for when the 22-year-old Dominican switch-hitter will be ready to play again, but he's most likely not going to be ready for the start of the 2024 season and will probably end up missing a good chunk of the season. Mauricio made his big-league debut in 2023 and has intriguing power from both sides of the plate. He was set to compete with Brett Baty and Mark Vientos for regular playing time at third base to open next season. SNY's Andy Martino writes that the Mets will likely look for third base insurance but not necessarily a regular at the hot corner. Free-agent veteran Justin Turner could be a fit in what would be a reunion with the Mets.
