Rockies Select Ethan Holliday Fourth Overall
Jackson Holliday was selected first overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2022 MLB Draft. Their father, Matt Holliday, a seven-time All-Star, enjoyed a long MLB career, spending most of his time with the Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals. Holiday was named Gatorade's Oklahoma Player of the Year this season. The 6-foot-5 infielder is credited for moving well despite his size and is known for having high power upside. MLB.com noted that the infielder has 35+ HR potential given his elite left-handed swing. He should be expected to spend most of his time at shortstop, but he has the arm to cover the hot corner. Holiday is expected to spend most of the 2026 and potentially the 2027 campaign in the lower levels of the minor leagues. However, given his elite raw talent, Holliday will likely be selected first in many first-year player drafts. He should establish himself as one of the top infield prospects in the minor leagues.
