Samuel Basallo Having Slow Start to MLB Career
Samuel Basallo has had a slow start to his MLB career. Through his first 10 games with the MLB club, the top catching prospect in the sport has posted an underwhelming .200/.243/.257 slash line with just two doubles. He has yet to go deep and has scored only one run and tallied five RBI. Despite his modest production, Basallo has shown a strong eye at the plate, posting an elite 26.7% strikeout rate while generating an impressive 76.7 mph bat speed, which suggests his power numbers should increase over the final month. Earlier this season, Basallo was flashing immense upside at Triple-A, carrying a .270/.377/.589 line with a .966 OPS and 23 home runs. Given that he is only 21 years old, fantasy managers should expect Basallo to find his footing in the majors slowly. While he has gotten off to a slow start, managers in all standard 12-team leagues should continue to view him as a high-power upside catcher going forward.
