Pirates Sign Shelby Miller To Minor League Deal
Shelby Miller to a minor league deal on Saturday, according to sources. The 30-year-old former first-rounder of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2009 most recently pitched for the Chicago Cubs after signing a minors deal with them in the offseason. Miller allowed seven earned runs in his two innings and later landed on the injured list with a lower back strain. He really hasn't been very effective since his All-Star season in 2015 with the Atlanta Braves and has dealt with various injuries since. It's a low-risk move for the Bucs, and Miller will report to Triple-A Indianapolis when he clears the league's COVID-19 protocols. He did pitch well for Triple-A Iowa, posting a 1.74 ERA and 15:6 K:BB in 10 1/3 innings, but he should remain on the waiver wire.
