Pat Freiermuth 2026 Fantasy Football Outlook: Return to Fantasy Relevance Possible in New-Look Offense
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth had his share of standout moments in 2025, but he still turned in the least productive season of his five-year career on a per-game basis. After setting a career-high with 65 receptions in 2024, Freiermuth managed just 41 catches on 54 targets with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback last season. Although Rodgers is set to return for one final year in Pittsburgh, much of Freiermuth's situation will look different in 2026. Jonnu Smith, who was significantly less effective on 54 targets of his own last year, was released by the Steelers in March, while Connor Heyward departed in free agency. The Steelers signed Darnell Washington to a contract extension this offseason, but the 6-foot-7 former Georgia standout has proven himself as a blocking tight end rather than a pure receiving threat. Even with the additions of Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie Germie Bernard to the wide receiver room, Freiermuth could see an increase in playing time, and should also benefit from playing in new head coach Mike McCarthy's pass-friendly offense. The 27-year-old is unlikely to be drafted in most fantasy leagues this fall, but his early-season usage will be worth monitoring for managers in need of tight end help.
