Morton tossed six innings of one-run ball while striking out eight and walking two to improve his record to 4-3 on the season. The 40-year-old hurler had it going on Saturday against his former team, picking up an impressive 22 swinging strikes in the start. Morton now has a 3.91 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts over 72 2/3 innings of work in 2024. Vierling went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored in the lopsided win over Houston. The veteran infielder hit a solo shot off Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti in the first inning, a blast that traveled 343 feet and had an exit velocity of 101.5 MPH. Vierling is putting together a productive season for the Tigers, hitting .266 with nine homers, 30 runs, and 30 RBI over 218 at-bats. The rookie outfielder has been a solid addition to the top of the Detroit lineup as he's batting .260 with three homers, 27 runs, 17 RBI, and five steals across 177 at-bats in 2024. On the heels of his four-hit game, Perez is now hitting .321 over his past seven contests. Kirby allowed just one unearned run over six innings of work while striking out six and walking two to earn the win. The veteran hurler racked up 16 swinging strikes in the outing while improving his record to 6-5 on the season. Overall, Kirby has a 3.54 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 84 strikeouts over 86 1/3 innings of work this season. Kirby is a nice anchor starting pitcher for fantasy gamers and should be in starting lineups whenever he takes the mound. Melendez went 2-for-4 with a grand slam to power the Royals to the win over LA. The veteran blew open the game in the seventh inning when he deposited a ball over the wall in right field to clear the bases and put KC up 5-2. Melendez worked a 12-pitch at-bat before ripping his first career grand slam, a shot that traveled 395 feet and had an exit velocity of 103.2 MPH. It has been a rough go for the veteran this season as he is now hitting .168 with eight homers, 19 runs, 23 RBI, and two steals across 196 at-bats in 2024. He cruised to his first major league victory and was perfect except for surrendering a single to Marlins third baseman Jake Burger. Herz became the second pitcher in MLB history to rack up 13 strikeouts and no walks in the first three career starts. The other was retired Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg. Herz owns a 3.77 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts over 14 1/3 innings in 2024. The Diamondbacks are being cautious with Kelly and will not rush him through his rehab process. The 35-year-old has been sidelined due to a right shoulder strain since late April. He has to throw beyond 75 feet. Kelly owned a 2.19 ERA, 0.93 ERA, and a 21: 6 K: BB across 24 2/3 innings before landing on the injured list. His next chance to return will be Sunday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners. Smith has filled in admirably at the hot corner with Josh Jung (wrist) on the injured list. He is slashing .294/.382/.436 with four home runs, 24 RBI, 33 runs, and four stolen bases over 242 plate appearances in 2024. Ezequiel Duran drew the start at third base instead of Smith for both games. 1 day agoSan Diego Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove (elbow) is getting closer to picking up a ball and resuming throwing, per Padres manager Mike Shildt. An MRI revealed that Musgrove's right elbow showed a bone spur and bruise. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection and a cortisone injection in his right elbow. The 31-year-old dealt with a similar injury in May and was placed on the injured list on June 1. Musgrove owned a 5.66 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and a 44 15 K: BB across 49 1/3 innings before landing on the injured list. Shildt would not offer specifics on a timeline, but Musgrove most likely will return after the All-Star break.Source: MLB

Perez exited Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with discomfort in his right knee. He underwent an MRI on Saturday, which revealed a minor sprain and inflammation. The 34-year-old is undergoing treatment and could return to the lineup Sunday or Tuesday against the Oakland A's. The veteran backstop is considered day-to-day. Perez is slashing .297/.375/.490 with 11 home runs, 45 RBI, and 27 runs across 280 plate appearances in 2024.
