The Baltimore Orioles have acquired catcher Alex Jackson from the New York Yankees for international signing bonus pool money and a player to be named later or cash considerations. Jackson will take the roster spot of catcher Gary Sanchez (knee), who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right knee. The team cleared 40-man roster room for Jackson by moving Jorge Mateo (hamstring) to the 60-day IL. Jackson is joining the Orioles with the team having recently lost fellow backstops Sanchez, Adley Rutschman, Maverick Handley, and Chadwick Tromp to the IL. He'll join Jacob Stallings to comprise Baltimore's backstop duo. The Seattle Mariners used the sixth overall pick in the draft on Jackson back in 2014, but he hasn't been able to establish himself in the bigs with a handful of organizations. Now 29 years old, Jackson has batted a woeful .132/.224/.232 with six home runs in 340 plate appearances in the majors.--Connor Byrne
