Nestor Cortes Resumes Throwing Off a Mound
Nestor Cortes (biceps) played catch from 90 feet last Thursday and felt good enough to throw off a mound on Saturday, according to MLB.com. Cortes was put on the 15-day injured list on Sept. 4 (retroactive to Sept. 4) with left-biceps tendinitis that he began experiencing following his start on Sept. 3. The 30-year-old veteran southpaw is unlikely to return to the big-league roster when he's eligible later this week, and the Friars probably don't want him anywhere near their starting rotation down the stretch as the look to cement their spot in the postseason. The Cuban hurler has not been very effective in just eight starts with the Padres and Milwaukee Brewers this year. He has a 5.47 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in SD in six starts and has allowed a whopping 13 home runs in only 34 1/3 total innings in 2025.
