Mike Clevinger To Make Spring Debut Saturday
2 years agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger said he will make his Cactus League debut on Saturday against his former team, the San Diego Padres. The league was investigating Clevinger after domestic-violence chargers were made against him, but MLB has decided not to discipline him this season. It's good news for his fantasy value in 2023, but the 32-year-old right-hander still isn't all that attractive after going 7-7 with a 4.33 ERA (4.97 FIP), 1.19 WHIP and career-low 18.8 percent strikeout rate in 114 1/3 innings over 23 outings (22 starts) for the Friars in 2022. Clevinger will need to rediscover some velocity if he wants to improve his K rate, and home runs could continue to be a problem. Injuries have been an issue as well, so fantasy managers should project a low ceiling in his first year in the American League Central.
