Michael Fulmer To Start A Rehab Assignment Thursday
3 years agoDetroit Tigers right-hander Michael Fulmer (spine) will start his minor league rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Toledo. Fulmer has been out since late June with a right cervical spine strain. The 28-year-old has been getting closer to a return of late, though, and the former American League Rookie of the Year is likely to return in a relief role after looking good in relief with six saves before he landed on the injured list. The oft-injured Fulmer was able to strike out 11.5 hitters per nine innings in his 27 1/3 relief innings this year, compared to just 5.0 K's per nine in his four starts. Left-hander Gregory Soto has done a fantastic job in Detroit's closer role with Fulmer sidelined, but Fulmer could at least have some value in deeper saves/holds leagues when he returns, likely in early August.
