Mets Place Reed Garrett on Injured List With Elbow Inflammation
Reed Garrett (elbow) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 23) with right-ebow inflammation and selected left-hander Jose Castillo's contract from the minors in a corresponding move. Right-hander Frankie Montas (elbow) was also moved to the 60-day IL. Garrett's injury might help explain why he allowed eight runs in 4 2/3 relief innings over his last five outings out of the Mets' bullpen. The recent rough patch has moved the 32-year-old veteran's season ERA up to 3.61, while he also has a 1.22 WHIP, 62 strikeouts, 24 walks and three saves in 52 1/3 total innings pitched in his second year with the club. Castillo will step in as a new middle reliever for the Mets with Garrett out as they begin a crucial divisional series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
