Max Scherzer Cleared For Next Start
3 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (triceps) has been physically cleared to start on Thursday, according to manager Dave Martinez. Paolo Espino would be next in line to make the start if Scherzer suffers a setback or is traded by then. Scherzer went from being a long shot to be traded just several weeks ago to being the most coveted starter on the market with the Nationals now firmly sellers before this week's deadline. Around 14 teams have inquired about the three-time Cy Young winner, so there's a good chance he won't be making his start on Thursday for Washington. Scherzer was scratched from his last outing on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles with mild triceps discomfort. Despite the injury and uncertainty over Scherzer's future, he remains a must-start if he actually pitches on Thursday for the Nats against the Philadelphia Phillies.
