Martin Maldonado Has Sore Thumb
5 years agoHouston Astros catcher Martin Maldonado (thumb) took a foul tip off his thumb in the last few days and was scratched from the Grapefruit League game on Tuesday as a precaution. Maldonado should be just fine for Opening Day. The 33-year-old from Puerto Rico will be Houston's primary catcher with Robinson Chirinos out of the picture. He's more of a defense-first backstop, though, making him only attractive in deep two-catcher leagues or AL-only formats. Maldonado hit just .213/.293/.378 with 12 home runs and 27 RBI in 333 at-bats in 2019.
