Mark Canha to Start Rehab Assignment on Friday
Mark Canha (elbow) to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Friday night with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Canha will resume playing in games in the minors a month after going on the injured list with tennis elbow in his left arm. The 36-year-old veteran could be back in the big leagues as early as next week, but it's unclear how long the Royals might leave him on his rehab assignment. When Canha returns to the Royals, he'll be an option mainly against left-handed pitchers at designated hitter, first base and the outfield. However, the former seventh-rounder won't exactly excite fantasy managers looking for a waiver-wire pickup, as Canha has hit just .212/.272/.265 on the year with a homer, six RBI and nine runs scored in 46 games and 125 trips to the plate for KC.
