Mariners Give Eugenio Suarez The Day Off
1 year agoSeattle Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suarez will start Tuesday's contest against the Cincinnati Reds on the bench. Believe it or not, this will be Suarez's first real day of rest all season long. Jose Caballero will start at the hot corner and hit eighth in the lineup against Reds rookie right-hander Connor Phillips, who will be making his major-league debut. The 32-year-old Suarez is in desperate need of a break, as he's gone just 4-for-33 (.121) with no home runs, two doubles, no RBI, 14 strikeouts and four runs scored in his last nine starts since Aug. 26. In his second year in Seattle, Suarez is hitting .230 (117-for-508) with 18 home runs, 22 doubles, 83 RBI, 55 runs scored and a league-high 181 strikeouts in 137 games. If he ends the year with an American League-high in K's, it will be the third time in the last five years that Suarez has led the league in strikeouts.
