Marcus Stroman Will Start Cactus League Opener Saturday
2 years agoChicago Cubs manager David Ross announced that right-hander Marcus Stroman will make the start on Saturday against the San Francisco Giants in the team's Cactus League opener. If everything goes according to plan, Stroman should also start on Opening Day for the Cubs in his second season with the team. The 31-year-old veteran went 6-7 with a 3.50 ERA (3.76 FIP), 1.15 WHIP and 20.9 percent strikeout rate in 138 2/3 innings over his 25 starts in his first year in Chicago in 2022. Stroman had some problems with the long ball, especially at Wrigley Field, so that will be something to keep an eye on this year. The ground-ball pitcher will need to induce more ground balls in 2023 to make up for the fact that he doesn't strike out a ton of batters.
