Marcelo Mayer's Injury Severity Still Unclear
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) still doesn't have a clear diagnosis or recovery timeline surrounding his injured wrist. The Red Sox are still collecting information about the injury, reports Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Mayer was placed on the injured list retroactive to July 24 with a sprained wrist and underwent an MRI last week, but the reports apparently weren't clear. The 22-year-old is eligible to return early next week on August 4, but it seems like the youngster is set to miss more time than the minimum. He's had an underwhelming rookie campaign so far, slashing .228/.272/.402, but the former top prospect should get more chances to prove himself once healthy.
