Jose A. Ferrer 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: No Longer In The Closer Mix With Washington Re-Signing Finnegan
Washington Nationals left-hander Jose A. Ferrer appeared in 31 games, winning one and saving one while posting a 3.38 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 32 innings. Ferrer features a four-pitch mix where his best pitch is a sinker, which he throws about 55% of the time. He is more of a ground ball pitcher than a strikeout pitcher; he has a 57.3%GB% as opposed to a paltry 19.4%K%. Being left-handed is also seen as a disadvantage when closing, but Ferrer could get opportunities if facing left-handed hitting lineups in the ninth inning. The current favorite to close would seem to be veteran Jorge Lopez, but Ferrer is a guy to keep an eye on this spring for saves. It's important to note that if Washington acquires a free-agent reliever like David Robertson or Kyle Finnegan, Ferrer would have minimal value in fantasy leagues. Update 2/25/25- The Nationals re-signed Finnegan to a one-year, $6 million contract in spring training, and he immediately becomes Washington's closer after racking up 38 saves for the Nationals in 2024. With Finnegan back in the fold, Ferrer becomes mainly an option in saves and holds leagues.
