Jorge Soler Shines On The Big Stage
6 years agoWhen Kansas City Royals outfielder Jorge Soler burst onto the scene in 2014 by ripping five home runs in his first 89 at-bats with the Cubs, it was obvious that he loved the spotlight. He still does. Getting to play under the lights at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night, Soler came alive and hit a sky-high solo shot to left to break a 1-1 tie and give the Royals the lead for good. Unfortunately, desire isn't always enough to make someone a good ballplayer, and Soler's talent continues to be severely hampered by his lack of contact. Soler is striking out at a ridiculous 37% clip so far this season, the fourth worst amongst qualified hitters in the league. He hasn't gone a game without striking out since April 2, and unless he can get that focus back, his ceiling is quite limited.
