Jimmy Garoppolo Has Chipped Bone, Torn Ligament In Thumb
3 years agoUpdating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (thumb) suffered a chipped bone and torn ligament in his right thumb in last Thursday's loss to the Tennessee Titans, according to sources. His status is in doubt for Week 17 against the Houston Texans, but he's going to try and give it a shot. The 49ers will re-evaluate Garoppolo on Wednesday, but there's a very real chance that rookie first-rounder Trey Lance will make his second NFL start this week. Although Jimmy G threw for over 300 yards last week, his accuracy was an issue and he threw two terrible interceptions, but he was apparently hindered by his thumb injury. If he plays through the injury, he'll be an even shakier QB2 in fantasy. Lance has exciting dual-threat qualities, but he's too raw to trust as anything more than a low-end QB2 who hasn't seen game action since Week 11.
