Jared Walsh To See Outfield Work
2 years agoLos Angeles Angels manager Phil Nevin said that he expects first baseman Jared Walsh (shoulder) to work in the outfield in spring training, and there's a good chance he'll see playing time there in 2023. Walsh is fully healthy entering camp after having thoracic outlet surgery, which limited him to 118 games last season. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter slashed a disappointing .215/.269/.374 with a .642 OPS, 15 home runs, 44 RBI, 41 runs scored and two stolen bases in 454 plate appearances after making the All-Star team in 2021. Walsh's contact and strikeout rates went in the wrong direction in 2022, but it's possibly his injury was mostly to blame. Gaining outfield eligibility would be good news as he looks to bounce back as extra protection in the lineup for Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
