D.J. Durkin Staying at Auburn Under Alex Golesh
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Auburn defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin is staying with the program under new head coach Alex Golesh. Durkin is regarded as one of the best defensive coordinators in the country, and his Tigers defense was playing at an elite level until he took over as the program's interim head coach for the final three games after the firing of Hugh Freeze. In the team's first nine games, which included matchups against high-powered offenses Baylor, Texas A&M, Georgia, Missouri, and Arkansas, Auburn did not allow more than 24 points in a contest. Durkin will enter his third season in this role at Auburn following two years as Texas A&M's defensive coordinator, two seasons as a co-defensive coordinator at Ole Miss, and one year as a consultant for the Atlanta Falcons. He previously held the head coaching role at Maryland from 2016 to 2018.
