Giants Sign Paul DeJong To Big-League Deal
1 year agoThe San Francisco Giants signed free-agent shortstop Paul DeJong to an undisclosed major-league deal on Tuesday, and he will join the team on Wednesday. DeJong began the 2023 campaign with the St. Louis Cardinals before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline earlier this month. Toronto released him on Monday, but it didn't take the 30-year-old veteran long to find a new home. The Jays cut him after he went 3-for-44 (.068) with 18 strikeouts in 13 games for them. Overall this year, he's hitting .211 (68-for-323) with 13 homers, 33 RBI, four steals and 39 runs scored in 94 games with the Cardinals and Jays. DeJong should at least see semi-regular playing time at the 6 in San Francisco as the Giants look for an upgrade over the struggling Brandon Crawford (forearm), who went on the injured list on Sunday.
