Erik Jones qualified 25th for this afternoon's race on the Chicago Street Course. Jones had a fairly anonymous run in this race last year when he started 21st and finished 16th. However, since Legacy Motor Club switched to Toyota, their cars have been slower than they were last year while Jones is still recovering from his injury at Talladega. Jones is not particularly noted as a road racer and has not scored a top-10 finish on a road or street course since finishing 10th at Watkins Glen in 2022. Additionally, he only ranked 38th in speed at Circuit of the Americas and 30th at Sonoma this season and has not had above-average speed in any race since his injury. His racecraft remains intact as he continues to usually finish better than he qualifies, but the odds of Jones competing for a top-10 in the Grant Park 165 seem rather remote.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
