Derek Carr Hasn't Been Named The Starter
4 years agoLas Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is "optimistic" that quarterback Derek Carr (groin) will be active in Week 16 against the Dolphins on Saturday, but Gruden wouldn't name the starting QB against Miami. Carr suffered a strained groin last Thursday and was removed from the final Week 16 injury report, but backup Marcus Mariota remains in play to get the start. Carr was limited in practice Tuesday but practiced in full Wednesday and Thursday while splitting repetitions with Mariota. Mariota ran for a game-high 88 yards and a touchdown and threw for two touchdowns after replacing Carr last week. The 29-year-old Carr has made a miraculous recovery in a week, but he'll be a highly volatile low-end QB2 on Saturday if he plays. The Dolphins Defense has also been one of the best in the league at limiting signal-callers in recent weeks, too.
