If he does return, though, Smith could return to the left tackle spot and play Tyler Smith at left guard, which was the plan going into last season. However, Tyron Smith's inability to stay healthy has led to Tyler Smith showing he's the best long-term option for Dallas at left tackle. The 32-year-old Tyron Smith had surgery to address a minor knee injury this offseason, and he missed the team's first 13 games in 2022 due to an avulsion fracture in his left knee that he suffered in training camp.
