Commanders Not Committing To Carson Wentz
2 years agoWhen asked about the team's plan at quarterback and whether QB Carson Wentz will be with the organization in 2023, Washington Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew said, "We're currently working through all that." In his first year in D.C., Wentz struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances, posting a 62.3% completion percentage, a career-low 1,755 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in just eight games played (seven starts). The 30-year-old will have a $26.1 million salary cap hit in 2023 if he sticks on the roster. He has no dead cap hit either, so there's a very good chance Wentz will find himself on the open market this offseason. If that happens, Sam Howell and Taylor Heinicke could compete for the starting job, depending on who else the organization brings in at the position.
