Charlie Blackmon Exercises His Player Option
3 years agoColorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon exercised his $21 million-plus player option on Thursday and will return to the team for the 2022 season. Blackmon has another player option coming in 2023 and has been with the team for the last 11 seasons after being drafted in 2008. The veteran outfielder started off last season slow, but he ended up finishing the year with a .270 batting average and 13 home runs while staying healthy for 582 plate appearances over 150 games. Blackmon now ranks second on the franchise's all-time list in games played (1,269) and hits (1,450), while he's seventh in home runs (191). With baseball expected to adopt a universal designated hitter next year, Blackmon will be a candidate to serve as the Rockies DH most nights.
