Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar was named the Calder Trophy winner as the NHL's rookie of the year for the 2019-20 season. Makar followed up his strong 2019 Playoff debut with an outstanding first full season in the NHL, as the 21-year-old posted a rookie-leading 12 goals by a defenseman, 38 assists and 50 points to go along with a plus-12 rating through 57 games. Makar continued his success in the 2020 NHL Playoffs by posting 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 15 games as the Avalanche lost in Game 7 of the second round series against the Stars. Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes and Blackhawks forward Dominik Kubalik were the other finalists for the Calder Trophy, and all three will be quality options across standard fantasy formats for the 2020-21 season.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller
