Cade Povich Fans Six in Rehab Outing
Cade Povich (hip) made a rehab appearance with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, throwing five innings and allowing two hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out six. Povich was placed on the 15-day injured list in mid-June with inflammation in his left hip. Thursday marked his third rehab outing, and he hit the 70-pitch mark, so his next start may come in the big leagues. The 25-year-old lefty threw 64 2/3 innings (12 starts) for Baltimore before getting hurt, recording a 2-5 record with a 5.15 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts. Povich has shown the ability to generate swing-and-miss (23.9% strikeout rate), but he allows far too much hard contact (50.8% hard-hit rate allowed). His pathway back to a regular role in Baltimore's rotation will become clearer if the Orioles trade away veteran Charlie Morton at the deadline.
