Brian Johnson, Jim Bob Cooter Candidates For Panthers OC Job
2 years agoPhiladelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson is believed to be a candidate for the Carolina Panthers' offensive coordinator position. However, if current Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen becomes the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said they will likely promote Johnson to offensive coordinator. Johnson's work with quarterback Jalen Hurts makes him attractive to a team like the Panthers, who may draft a QB in the top 10 this year. Jacksonville Jaguars pass-game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter interviewed for Carolina's OC position this past week, and he was an assistant for head coach Frank Reich in Indianapolis from 2009 to 2011. Cooter appears to be a fallback option if Johnson doesn't work out. Whoever the new OC is could be in charge of play-calling duties in 2023.
