New Jersey Devils defenseman Brendan Smith is troubled by a sprained knee and will be out for "a little bit of time." Smith was injured Monday versus Boston and will start his absence Wednesday night against Montreal. The 34-year-old has notched five points (one goal, four assists) in 34 games with the Devils this season while amassing 48 hits and 42 blocks. Cal Foote is set to step into the lineup as Smith's replacement on Wednesday. The former first-round pick has been limited to only AHL action so far in 2023-24, collecting nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 24 games.
