Brendan McKay To Make Spring Debut Friday
5 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher/designated hitter Brendan McKay (shoulder) is scheduled to make his spring training debut on Friday against the Twins. McKay is slightly behind the other pitchers in camp but still has time to be ready for Opening Day if he can avoid any setbacks. The 24-year-old two-way star made his big league debut in 2019 with 11 starts and two relief appearances and had a 5.14 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 10.3 K/9 in 49 innings for the Rays. Per MLB Pipeline, he was the team's No. 2 prospect behind shortstop Wander Franco last season. McKay is much more attractive in fantasy for his arm than his bat, and his exceptional command gives him plenty of upside. He should be owned in all dynasty/keeper leagues and is a nice late-round upside pick in mixed leagues.
