Brandyn Garcia Sent To Arizona in Josh Naylor Trade
Brandyn Garcia was included in a trade package along with right-handed pitcher Ashton Izzi for Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor on Thursday night. Garcia has split time between Double-A and Triple-A in a relief role this year, totaling a 3.51 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 16.8 percent strikeout-minus-walk percent between the two levels. The 25-year-old made two appearances in the majors this week against Milwaukee and had mixed results. He had a rough debut, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with no strikeouts in an inning on Monday. Then he pitched a cleaner inning in relief on Wednesday, with no runs and two walks, and a strikeout. The lefty boasts a three-pitch mix, featuring a sinker that sits at 97 MPH. He complements it with a cutter and sweeper, and he consistently pounds the strike zone, as well as producing plenty of weak contact on the ground. He projects as a solid reliever with a foundational fastball in his new home in Arizona.
