Anthony Rizzo Shut Down For Remainder Of The Year
1 year agoThe New York Yankees are shutting down first baseman Anthony Rizzo (concussion) for the rest of the year, according to manager Aaron Boone. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise with the Yankees eight games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League entering play on Tuesday. The 34-year-old left-handed slugger had been making progress from his concussion issues, so he should be fine for the start of spring training in 2024. He's been out since landing on the concussion injured list on Aug. 3 with post-concussion syndrome. DJ LeMahieu will likely continue to serve as the team's primary first baseman the rest of the way. Rizzo will finish his 2023 campaign with a disappointing .244/.328/.378 slash line with 12 home runs, 41 RBI and 45 runs scored in 99 games.
