Alex Freeland to Join Dodgers
Alex Freeland from Triple-A Oklahoma City, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Now 23 years old, the switch-hitting Freeland joined the organization as a third-round pick in the 2022 draft. Freeland, who ranks as MLB Pipeline's 35th-best prospect, earned his way to the majors this year by slashing .253/.377/.421 with 12 home runs, 71 RBI, and 17 stolen bases in 453 plate appearances at the minors' highest level. It's unclear how often the Dodgers plan to start Freeland in his first taste of the majors, but he'll at least give them more infield depth with Max Muncy (knee) and Enrique Hernandez (elbow) on the injured list. While Muncy will start a rehab assignment Tuesday and could come off the IL to reclaim third base in a matter of days, there's no timetable for Hernandez's return. That opens the door for Freeland to fill a multi-positional role for the Dodgers.
