49ers Restructure Weston Richburg's Contract
4 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers restructured center Weston Richburg's contract on Saturday, creating $6.875 million worth of salary cap space in 2021 for a player who will likely end up retiring. The 49ers initially inked Richburg to a five-year, $47.5 million deal in March of 2018, and he started 15 games in his first season with the team. He suffered a torn patellar tendon in his knee in Week 14 of the 2019 season and missed the final stretch of San Francisco's Super Bowl run that year. Richburg started 2020 on the Physically Unable to Perform list and didn't appear in a single game. The 29-year-old has had shoulder and hip surgery since the end of the season and likely will hang up his cleats this offseason.
