RotoBaller PGA Expert Roundtable

Sentry Tournament of Champions

The Expert Roundtable article is an attempt to get you inside the minds of our PGA DFS staff for every tournament.

Our four top golf writers - Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Josh Bennett, and Andrew Putters - will answer the same set of questions each week to give you an idea of how they are viewing the PGA DFS slate. Let's tee it up!

Who is your favorite DFS value play?

  • Joe Nicely: Marc Leishman ($7.4k)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Adam Scott ($8,100)
  • Josh Bennett: Collin Morikawa (8,800)

Who is your favorite DFS “high priced” play?

  • Joe Nicely: DJ ($11K)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Jon Rahm ($10,400)
  • Josh Bennett: Justin Thomas (10,700)

Who is your top GPP play?

  • Joe Nicely: Collin Morikawa ($8.8k)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Scottie Scheffler ($8,500) - From a contrarian standpoint, DeChambeau and Cantlay are both very intriguing.
  • Josh Bennett: Daniel Berger (8,600)

Who is your top Cash-Game play?

  • Joe Nicely: Hideki Matsuyama ($9k)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Tony Finau ($8,900)
  • Josh Bennett: Patrick Reed (9,600)

Which popular golfer will you be “fading”?

  • Joe Nicely: Underweight - Patrick Reed ($9.6k)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Lanto Griffin ($6,900)
  • Josh Bennett: Cameron Smith (8,400)

What stands out as the most important stat for this golf course?

  • Joe Nicely: SG: Approach, Proximity 100-150 yards
  • Spencer Aguiar: Driving Distance, Proximity Within 125 Yards
  • Josh Bennett: SG: Approach

Who is your favorite DFS “dart throw”?

  • Joe Nicely: Ryan Palmer ($7k) & Martin Laird ($6.4k)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Kevin Na ($6,700)
  • Josh Bennett: Martin Laird (6,400)

What is your favorite bet of the week? (Any type)

  • Joe Nicely: Collin Morikawa 22/1
  • Spencer Aguiar: Adam Scott 55/1
  • Josh Bennett: Adam Scott (55/1)

Make a “bold prediction” for this week:

  • Joe Nicely: The Marc Leishman comeback tour starts with a top-five this week.
  • Spencer Aguiar: Dustin Johnson finishes outside the top-10 at Kapalua for the first time since 2010
  • Josh Bennett: Jon Rahm finishes bottom 10

Who is your favorite overall DFS golfer and why?

  • Joe Nicely: Dustin Johnson ($11k) - I love the fact that we can grab DJ - who just finished one of the most dominant stretches in modern golf history and has won on this course twice - at lower-than-it-should-be ownership.
  • Spencer Aguiar: Adam Scott ($8,100) - We get a suppressed price on the Aussie, who enters 2021 having played a limited schedule last year. Perhaps it is because he has been out of sight, but Scott’s talent alone warrants more trust than his $8,100 price tag is indicating.
  • Josh Bennett: Collin Morikawa (8,800) - He's one of the best iron players in the field, and a frequent birdie maker. His price is too low for his talent, and you can pair him with any of the top price players

What is your optimal DFS lineup building strategy?

  • Joe Nicely: Contrarian
  • Spencer Aguiar: The $6,000 range gets poor fast, and I won’t be going lower than Kevin Na at $6,700
  • Josh Bennett: Balanced

Who is your pick to win the tournament?

  • Joe Nicely: Dustin Johnson
  • Spencer Aguiar: Jon Rahm
  • Josh Bennett: Justin Thomas
