NBA Waiver Wire: Shallow Leagues (Week 15)

It's Week 15 – we're a few weeks away from playoffs and now is the time to shape your roster for that postseason run.  The waiver wire is flowing powerfully right now, and there are some potential adds that can help you get the extra edge this week.

This year, we're tossing out our old convention of separating waiver wire posts into positions, and instead, we're separating them into of league -- standard, shallow, deep, etc. The NBA is trending to positionless basketball, so we at RotoBaller should too.

For shallow (8-10 team) league adds, we use a general rule of thumb of an ownership rate of under 65% on Yahoo. All position eligibility based on Yahoo leagues.

Shallow League Adds for Week 15

Dejounte Murray, PG

Ownership: 18%

6.3 PPG / 4.8 REB / 2.5 AST / .414 FG%

Father time has struck again, this time in San Antonio. Gregg Popovich has decided to bring Tony Parker off the bench for the remainder of the season, in favor of Dejounte Murray. It's not that Tony Parker has been playing terribly, the Spurs just realize it's time to give more playing opportunity to their core future.

In his first start, Dejounte Murray scored 8 points with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Earlier in the season when Tony Parker was inactive, Murray did have flashes of brilliance like his 16/14/6 game against the Raptors, but also had duds where he struggled to score and distribute the ball. If you plan on picking him up, be aware of the fact he is an up and down player but should trend upwards the more time he gets as a starter. If you are in need of a guard who can rebound as well as provide a fair amount of steals, look no further.

JaMychal Green, PF/C

Ownership: 22%

10.1 PPG /  7.4 REB / .721 FT% / .462 FG%

With Memphis sitting at 16-29 in the Western Conference and about 7 games out of a playoff spot, it seems that they are heading closer towards a total revamp of their roster. This could mean anything from trading Marc Gasol or Mike Conley for future assets or just giving more opportunities for their other talent on the team. Recently, it seems that JaMychal Green is stepping up to the opportunity to be a future part of this team.

On Saturday, JaMychal Green had a monster game scoring 8 points and 16 rebounds, in which he left early due to an ankle injury. His status is currently up in the air regarding his return date, but as of right now if you can roster him, he has the potential to be a huge addition to your team. In the month of January he's averaging 11.4 PPG and 10 REB, and with the possibility of more responsibility in the coming months, he is a must add.

T.J. McConnell, PG

Ownership 30%

7.8 PPG/ 4.8 AST / 1.4 STL / .534 FG%

T.J. is by no means a sleeper pickup, I'm sure at one point you have either had him on your roster or wish you did. His opportunities over the past few seasons have been largely based on how injured the 76ers are. Early in the season, the number 1 draft pick Markelle Fultz went down with a shoulder injury which made them thin at the guard spot and this gave McConnell enough minutes to be a steady contributor in deeper leagues. Recently, J.J. Redick went down with a leg injury and he's expected to be reevaluated in 6-10 days. This makes TJ McConnell an absolute add to shallow leagues.

In the two games since Redick went down, he's averaging 15.0 PPG, 6.5 AST, 5.0 REB and 3.0 STL all while shooting extremely efficiently at 58.3 FG%. If you have an open roster spot and need a quality contribution from one player for the week, this is your guy. With the 76ers set to play 4 games this week, he will certainly give your team a boost in assists and steals.
