NBA Waiver Wire : Category Streamers – Weekend Edition (Week 4)

Week 4 of the NBA season is coming to a close, and H2H league managers should be fighting for every category win possible to ensure a good position in the playoffs.  Today's column focuses on last minute fights for categories on Saturday and Sunday.

Remember, these streamers are solely for short term gains in specific categories. For recommendations on guys to add for the long-term, be sure to check out our Waiver Wire Pickups List.

NBA Waiver Wire : Category Streamers – Weekend Edition (Week 4)

Weekend of 11/21 & 11/22

Teams with 2 games: None

Teams with 0 games: CHA, CHI, MIN, UTH

Points

Arron Afflalo (SG/SF, NYK)

Owned in 46% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 21 @ Houston

ANALYSIS: Afflalo still appears to be knocking off some of the rust after missing the first 8 games of the season. In Tuesday's win over the Hornets, however, Afflalo scored 16 points on 15 shots, 5 of which were three-pointers (all were season highs). That performance could serve as an indicator that Afflalo has his confidence back, and is comfortable with his new team. He appears poised to score around the 15 points per game he has average over the past few seasons.

Rebounds

Jordan Hill (PF/C, IND)

Owned in 17% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 21 vs. Milwaukee

ANALYSIS: Hill has become a major beneficiary in production from the injury to rookie Myles Turner last week. In his last 4 games, Hill has managed just 22 minutes per contest, but has produced rebounds in an impressive manner in those games, averaging 8.5 per game. His value in all other categories is basically worthless, but if your rebounding matchup is tight heading into the weekend, Hill is a decent streaming option.

Assists

Jameer Nelson (PG, DEN)

Owned in 2% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Sunday, Nov. 22 vs. Golden State

ANALYSIS: This is a super-deep waiver add, but one that actually warrants consideration. The old veteran has been getting significant time on the floor for the Nuggets, averaging 25 minutes per game over his last 5 contests. He has seemingly found his way into the rotation, even playing alongside rookie phenom Emmanuel Mudiay when the Nuggets have gone with their small-ball lineup (a fairly common sight for a Nuggets team that is thin up front). He isn’t a lock for big assist numbers, but I’d trust him to hit the 4-5 assist mark if his uptick in playing time continues.

Steals

Tony Allen (SG/SF, MEM)

Owned in 42% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 21 @ San Antonio

ANALYSIS: Most fantasy basketball players are familiar with Allen’s skill set and ability. From a fantasy standpoint, he is a minus across the board, except for the steals category, where he currently averages 1.8 spg and has only averaged less than 1 steal per contest in just one season. He is the very definition of a one trick pony.

Blocks

Jerami Grant (SF/PF, PHI)

Owned in 8% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 21 @ Miami

ANALYSIS: Grant joins a short-list of players who have made back-to-back appearances in this column (Week 3 weekend waivers could be found here). His ownership at 8% is far too low for a young, athletic player on a bad team getting big minutes (just under 30 over his last 5). On the season, Grant is averaging an impressive 1.7 bpg. Even more impressive: Grant has blocked 2 or more shots in 7 of 12 games played. Unlike Tony Allen mentioned above, he is not solely a one trick pony, but his best trick of swatting away shots could get you over the hump this weekend.

Three Pointers

Jerryd Bayless (PG/SG, MIL)

Owned in 31% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 21 @ Indiana

ANALYSIS: The veteran Bayless has been on fire from downtown, a trend that began during a November 2 win at Brooklyn, where he knocked down 6 treys in a start. Since that night, whether he has started or come off the Bucks bench, Bayless has converted at least 1 three-pointer in every contest, including three straight games in the past week where he converted 3 three-pointers. Despite facing a defensively sound Pacers team Saturday night, look for his hot streak from beyond the arc to continue.
