Lose-Lose in Kansas City: Jamaal Charles Suffers Knee Injury, Chiefs Blow Lead Against Bears

For the Kansas City Chiefs, it doesn't get much worse than what happened on Sunday afternoon. After winning in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, the Chiefs have now lost four in a row, with the worst loss coming on Sunday. While losses against the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals are understandable, their most recent loss is not.

After going up 17-3 at halftime and dominating the clearly rebuilding Bears, Kansas City didn't score a single point in the second half, resulting in a heartbreaking loss. Chicago took the lead with just 18 seconds left on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Jay Cutler to Matt Forte, on a play that looked poised for disaster as Cutler nearly fumbled the snap.

The loss was brutal, but the Chiefs may have suffered an even tougher loss against the Bears. With 9:16 left in the third quarter and the Chiefs still up by 14, running back Jamaal Charles went down holding his right knee after an awkward cut. According to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com, head coach Andy Reid confirmed that the preliminary report showed that Charles had suffered a torn ACL.

The injury obviously sucked the life out of Kansas City's offense, and in turn leaves this team in shambles moving forward. Charles was their workhorse and stud, but now it seems that second-year running back Charcandrick West, who rushed seven times for 31 yards on Sunday, will be the starter in Kansas City, with perennial handcuff Knile Davis backing him up.
