ANALYSIS: The Washington Nationals haven't been finding themselves in the win column very often lately, but when they have been, reliever Kyle Finnegan has typically been there to close the door.
Finnegan has served as the team's primary closer since the trade deadline saw the team deal Brad Hand to the Toronto Blue Jays. He has converted nine of his 11 save opportunities on the year including seven straight. Since the start of August, he's allowed just two earned runs over 16.2 innings. He isn't a great strikeout pitcher with just a 23.7% strikeout rate on the year, but many of his peripheral stats backup the success he's had so far. He has a 3.12 xERA to support his 2.61 ERA as well as a .309 xwOBAcon that ranks in the top 10% of the league.
Add Finnegan in any league where saves are highly-coveted. The 30-year-old veteran has done nothing to lose his role as the primary closer and should continue to see around two or three save opportunities most weeks going forward.
