Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed had an excellent rookie season in 2023, finishing as the WR25 in PPR formats despite a slow start to the season. Reed had 15+ PPR fantasy points in seven of his last nine games played, becoming a reliable WR2/flex starter.

Reed had an explosive start to the 2024 season, storming to a 33.1 PPR fantasy points finish against the Philadelphia Eagles. He showed off his raw speed, quickness, and elusiveness on huge plays and carried the team on his back.

Unfortunately, Reed now carries an injury designation. Is Jayden Reed hurt or healthy? Will he play for the Packers in Week 3? Let's break it down.

Jayden Reed Injury Update for Fantasy Football

Reed was initially listed on Friday's injury report with a calf/shin issue. While the details of his injury haven't been disclosed beyond that, he did play in Week 2 against the Colts but was only targeted twice, catching two passes for nine yards. He did have two rushes for 37 yards, though.

Reed showed up on Next Gen Stats' list of fastest ball carriers from Week 2, and it wasn't the first time he had chart-busting speed logged in a game. Reed appears to at least be able to reach high speeds despite his injury, which is good for his overall prognosis.

Reed was limited in his action, however, and it remains to be seen why. It's possible the Packers are being cautious with a minor injury and felt confident enough that light usage wouldn't cause a reaggravation or worsening of his injury.

Reed didn't practice on Wednesday, but it's worth noting he was questionable for that Week 2 game against the Titans and played anyway. Reed doesn't seem to be in danger of missing Week 3 without a negative development injury-wise.

 

Jayden Reed Fantasy Football Outlook

Given Reed's strong end to the 2023 season and explosive start to 2024 when Jordan Love was still healthy, the WR is a must-start in all formats. He's firmly in WR2 territory with room for much more. He was the highest-scoring receiver in Week 1 despite having just five touches.

Reed embarrassed the Eagles in Brazil and though said Eagles are shaping up to be one of the worst secondaries in the league, Reed's production in the second half of 2023 made him a must-start over that stretch. If he or the Packers offense has improved at all, he could be dynamite for his managers.

There were many questions about the depth of the WR room in the offseason. Reed was seen as having too much target competition, so his ability to score highly in fantasy with limited touches is a relief to those who drafted him.

It may still be the case that target competition is a significant limiting factor in his production. Fellow WRs Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Bo Melton will all earn volume, and tight ends Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave are part of offensive game plans as well. However, Reed is a must-start. He's just too good.
