Is Garrett Wilson out for the season? When is Garrett Wilson coming back? The latest Garrett Wilson injury update and fantasy football outlook heading into Week 8 of 2025.
New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) wasn't able to play in his team's Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers. That game turned into an ugly defensive battle -- or rather, an ugly battle featuring a lack of offense from both teams -- showcasing how important he is to his team.
The Jets don't have much depth at WR outside of Wilson, and though they used a second-round pick on tight end Mason Taylor (quad), the lack of overall pass-catcher depth is pretty stark. That's left them without much of a passing game in the meantime.
Their passing game mostly thrives in garbage time, too, because their starting quarterback, so far, Justin Fields, is one of the league's worst passers. He often seems unwilling to throw the ball at all. When Wilson returns, they should be better, but when will he come back? Let's dive in.

Is Garrett Wilson Out for the 2025 Season?
Wilson is set to miss his second game with his as-of-yet unspecified knee ailment. He was ruled out yesterday. He hasn't been placed on injured reserve, though, which means he won't have to miss a designated number of games. The Jets have their bye week in Week 9.
That will afford him an extra week to get healthy enough to take the field in Week 10, which is now the earliest he can return to play. We don't have a specific timetable for his return, but we can surmise that he won't miss more than four contests, since he wasn't placed on IR.

Wilson's talent has been apparent for some time now. It's good news that his injury wasn't super serious and that he won't miss the rest of the season.
Garrett Wilson Fantasy Football Outlook
When he plays, he's a must-start because of his talent and his status as his team's clear WR1 without much target competition in the way. His outlook is a bit murky -- though he has plenty of upside, the quarterback situation is very ugly right now.
Fields is only getting another start because QB Tyrod Taylor (knee), who started the season as the backup, is injured and won't play in Week 8. He was slated to take over as the starter after Fields was benched, but the injury changed things.
So to recap:
• Woody Johnson verbally decimates Justin Fields, blames him for the Jets’ 0-7 record
• Tyrod Taylor expected to start
• Woody Johnson publicly admits “I’m obviously not a good owner”
• Tyrod now OUT, Fields starting
The New York Jets. What a football team.

The situation has been a bit of a clown show, led by chief clown Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets. He's a big reason why the team is such a dumpster fire, as incompetence can usually be traced to the top. It's not known how Taylor will affect Wilson's performance.
He's mostly been a career backup and is now 36 years old. Perhaps Wilson will have more production outside of garbage time, but it seems like, in tough matchups against tough defenses, the poor QB play he'll have to deal with will hold him back.
You'll pretty much have no choice but to start him and take the good with the bad when he returns, though. His 20+ point games are enough to elevate teams to win games, and you'll have to pray you can get enough of them to make it to the playoffs. He's just too good a player to bench.
