Is Cam Skattebo Starting for the Giants at RB? Rookie Fantasy Football Outlook

Cam Skattebo - College Football Rankings, NCAA CFB DFS Lineup Picks

Is Cam Skattebo starting for the Giants at running back? Should I draft Skattebo for fantasy football in 2025? Read the rookie RB fantasy football outlook.

The Giants' offense will look different this year with veteran Russell Wilson as the team's new signal caller and rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart waiting in the wings. Part of that change also includes the fourth-round rookie running back Cam Skattebo, who forced 110 missed tackles at Arizona State last season.

Skattebo only trailed Ashton Jeanty in the 2025 running back class in career missed tackles forced per touch. He's built like a bowling ball with superb contact balance, and while he lacks long speed, he's explosive in his change of direction while always running with violence.

Here's a breakdown on how Skattebo projects to fit into the Giants' backfield and his current fantasy value.

Is Cam Skattebo Starting for the Giants?

The word out of Giants training camp has been that second year back, Tyrone Tracy Jr. is the starter without competition, headed into Week 1. Skattebo got banged up with a hamstring injury during camp, which led to him missing the first two preseason games. But he's back to practicing now and suited up for the preseason finale, a positive sign for his chances to play in the season opener in Washington.

While Skattebo isn't the starter to open the season, he will eat into Tracy's touches a bit before eventually working into a more sizable role. He projects to be a monster in goal-line situations and in receiving game, which are the most valuable components for running back scoring. He'll draw comparisons to David Montgomery, who has a similar build and finishes runs strongly while also being capable as a pass catcher.

He's thought of by many as a plodding back who is a zero in the pass game, but he is a dynamic weapon as a receiver. He caught 45 balls last season in addition to his massive production on the ground.

Cam Skattebo Fantasy Football Outlook

Skattebo played two seasons at Arizona State University and had a historic senior season. He rushed for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns while adding 45 receptions for 605 yards and three touchdowns in the pass game. He is the first FBS player since Christian McCaffrey in 2015 to have at least 1,500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a single season.

His ability to force missed tackles proved to be elite at the collegiate level, and he was among the highest in the draft class in explosive run rate at 18%, tied with the ultra-explosive Bhayshul Tuten.

Skattebo’s prospect profile features several traits that translate well to fantasy scoring. Tracy was an intriguing prospect and turned in a productive rookie season, but his rushing peripherals are a tad worrisome. His 34% success rate ranked third lowest among 50 running backs with at least 100 carries, ahead of only Cam Akers and Alexander Mattison, according to SumerSports. There's a path for Skattebo to overtake the lion's share of work in this backfield by mid-season.

Should I Draft Cam Skattebo?

Skattebo is a part of a historically good running back class that fantasy managers should want to attack hard in redraft leagues in 2025. They are routinely available in the double-digit rounds of drafts, which is the ideal window to be taking upside swings at the running back position.

The starter label for Tracy is driving the difference in ADP, but Skattebo feels like the more talented back and managers can take him at a cheaper cost.

Skattebo was selected with one of the first three draft picks on day 3 of the NFL Draft in a loaded class. Tracy has the leg up on him with a year of experience in the NFL, but Skattebo has the better prospect profile and draft capital. His potential for a healthy amount of high-value touches as a receiver and in the green zone creates a really appealing pick in the 10th round of fantasy drafts. Stacking bets with young, dynamic players at the end of drafts is how you win, see Bucky Irving, who was one of the players most commonly found on championship teams last season.
